A few years ago, my husband and I moved to Switzerland and I started a blog as a way to stay in touch with my family:
https:www.elkinswitzerland.com
Living abroad, with the strangeness and sometimes loneliness of being away from home drew me to write.
Not just to record the details of our travel, but to describe my homesickness and all of the other feelings I was processing.
Funny how it takes leaving home to find the unexpected, but also the familiar. Funny how solitude and loss allow us to metabolize, to grow and move through.
My mom’s recent death, my son graduating from college, my daughter getting married. I had to experience a lot of it from another continent.
But I found myself being really honest. I started thinking and writing and sharing my personal journey with my Bipolar II.
Anyway, I wrote a lot and I learned a lot. And maybe my writing got a little bit better.
And now, I’m back at home with this new blog http://www.honeybeesandreveries.com – trying to remember and relearn the lessons in confidence and pride that writing can bring.
As always, thanks for the encouragement,
xoxo Beth
